FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Florida man who was sitting in the front seat of a car that was involved in a deadly carjacking last summer pleaded guilty Monday to a felony charge for his involvement in the case.
Hector Cabrera, 19, of Margate, Fla., pleaded guilty to one count of accessory after the fact to murder, according to the Broward State Attorney's Office.
He is facing up to 15 years in prison for his role in the fatal carjacking of 14-year-old Kyler Bunch.
The plea deal, which was announced in December, means Cabrera, who is in the custody of federal immigration officials, will be deported to his home country of Colombia once he is released from prison.
Cabrera's accomplice, 19-year-old Luis Suarez, who was sitting in the back seat of the car, was arrested last year and was charged with first-degree murder and armed carjacking.
Suarez has also pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to go on trial in February.
Authorities say Suarez and Cabrera met up with an accomplice in a South Florida strip club before the carjacking. Prosecutors have not identified Suarez's accomplice and have not charged him in the case.
Cabrera and Suarez were in the car when a 16-year-old girl was carjacked, according to the state attorney's office.
She was released unharmed after she left the car with Cabrera, who drove the girl back to his home in Margate.[10-year experience with the treatment of cavernous hemangioma of the liver].
